Tracking Your Progress: The Course Grade Calculator
Staying on top of your academic performance throughout a semester is key to success. A grade calculator is a tool that helps you determine your current standing in a course and figure out what you need to score on future assignments or exams to achieve your desired final grade. Most courses are graded using a weighted system, where different categories of work contribute a different percentage to your final score. For example, homework might be worth 20%, mid-term exams 30%, and the final exam 50%.
How Weighted Grades are Calculated
To calculate your weighted grade, you follow these steps:
- Calculate the score for each category: For each category (like 'Homework'), find your average score as a percentage. For example, if you scored 85 out of 100 points on all homework, your score for that category is 85%.
- Apply the weights: Multiply the score for each category by its weight. For example, if homework is worth 20% of the final grade, you would calculate 85% × 20% = 17.
- Sum the weighted scores: Add up the weighted scores from all categories to get your final grade.
This calculator simplifies this process, allowing you to enter your scores and weights for different assignments to see your current grade and experiment with different scenarios for your final exam.
