How Concrete Volume is Calculated
The calculation is a straightforward volume computation.
- First, the volume is calculated in cubic feet by multiplying the length (in feet), width (in feet), and thickness (converted from inches to feet by dividing by 12).
Volume (cubic feet) = Length (ft) × Width (ft) × (Thickness (in) / 12)- Since concrete is ordered in cubic yards, this value is then converted. There are 27 cubic feet in one cubic yard.
Volume (cubic yards) = Volume (cubic feet) / 27
It's always a good practice to add about 5-10% to your final order to account for uneven subgrade, spillage, and waste.
